Champagney is a village in Haute-Saône of 3,500 inhabitants. Our house is in a calm street and near the centre of the village and its numerous shops :
A pond in Champagney, where you can fish... One kilometer (0.62 m) from our house, you will be able to swim (the beach is watched in July and August), to fish, to relax on the side of two ponds : Ballastières. On the other side of the road, there are also some private ponds in which you can fish. Next to these private ponds and opposite to the Ballastieres way in, you will find the sport circuits to run, ride or walk in the forest. If you like aquatic sports, you would enjoy the Bassin de Champagney (sort of lake with a dam) to fish, swim, to go canoeing, windsurfing,... On the cultural side, we have a local library and a small museum : the museum of the Human Rights and negritude. Indeed, the inhabitants of Champagney were the first ones to ask for the abolition of slavery in complaints books (books written by the French people before the Revolution to express their complaints and demands to the King) The church of Champagney is quite remarkable, because of its size and its campanile.Indeed, since 1929, it has had a peal of 21 bells. Seven bells were added in 1985 and three in 1997 : now, it is made up with 31 bells. Every year, around June 10th, a bike race, Race of the 3 balloons, is organised. This race is divided in three parts over a weekend : on Thursday, during 3 hours in Champagney, on Saturday, the race departing from Champagney and going through Alsace Balloon, Great Balloon, Servance Balloon and finishing at the Planche des Belles Filles and on Sunday, the rising of the Planche. In the 2004 edition, there were around 1500 participants... In the neighbouring village, Ronchamp, you will see the Chapel of Ronchamp (made by the architect Le Corbusier 1887-1965, French architecte, painter and theorist) and the Mine Museum, because it was a mining village for many years.
The Chapel of Ronchamp After the village of Plancher-les-Mines, (at 15 min from our house) you will see the Planche des Belles Filles (a mountain called "planche" : plank, because of its shape), the ideal place for walking, riding, rambling or having a picnick in summer and skiing in this local resort. Not far from there, you will also enjoy the same activities in the Ballon de Servance (called balloon, because of its round shape) All through the year, , different events and fairs are organized in the whole region, like the Spuds Fete in Ronchamp, the Yesterday Great Fair in Frahier or the various flea markets...
